The Six Best Doctors for You #6 Doctor Nature

Gayle PalmerยทMar 16, 2026ยท 4 minutes

“When life gets messy, go outside - Nature knows what to do.”

Doctor Nature doesn’t have a surgery or an appointment book.
You’ll find them in the woods, by the sea, or perhaps in your back garden, quietly whispering:
“Put down your phone. Come and remember who you are.”

They’ve been practising medicine for millennia - treating stress, confusion, and heartache with a single prescription: step outside.

Take this outside for the benefits of NATURE whilst you listen or watch, and subscribe too!

A personal story

Years ago, I hit a wall — the kind of exhaustion that no nap or supplement could fix. In fact I was building my clinic, as well as running my osteopathic practice, keeping up with the garden, building websites… you get the picture? It was A LOT, actually TOO MUCH.
So I did something radical: I walked out the door!

I didn’t go far — just to the garden.
I sat on a bench looking at the lawn, and I breathed.
The sun filtered through the grass; birds argued cheerfully in the branches of the nearby trees.
After ten minutes, I felt my whole system exhale.

The Six Best Doctors - Doctor Nature

Now I was more ready to take on the next thing..

That’s Doctor Nature for you.
No diagnosis. No waiting list. Just presence.

The science of green therapy

Modern science is finally catching up with ancient wisdom: time in nature heals us on every level.

๐ŸŒฟ Body: Blood pressure drops, muscles relax, immune cells increase.
๐ŸŒค Mind: Stress hormones fall, creativity rises, focus improves.
๐Ÿ’š Spirit: We reconnect to something larger — the web of life that holds us all.

Even just looking at trees can lower your heart rate.
A daily dose of daylight resets your body clock, helping you sleep better and feel calmer.

It’s not woo-woo; it’s biology.

The challenges of modern life

We’ve become indoor creatures — sealed in climate-controlled boxes, lit by screens instead of sunlight.
We live in concrete jungles, scroll through virtual forests, and call it “connection.”

But you can’t download a sunrise.
You have to step into it.

Prescriptions from Doctor Nature

๐ŸŒณ Go outside daily – Even five minutes counts. Step onto your balcony, into your garden, or walk to the nearest tree.

๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ Walk mindfully – Notice textures, sounds, and smells. Let your senses reboot.

๐ŸŒป Bring nature indoors – Plants, flowers, stones, shells — tiny reminders of the bigger world.

๐Ÿฆ Observe life – Birds nesting, ants building, leaves turning. It reconnects you with patience and perspective.

๐ŸŒŠ Find your element – Forests for grounding, water for cleansing, hills for expansion, gardens for nurturing.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ Go barefoot sometimes – “Earthing” helps balance your nervous system and literally grounds your energy.

๐ŸŒ… End your day with the sky – Watch the sunset. Feel time slow down. Remember you’re part of something beautiful and vast.
