“Every bite is a message to your body.” ๐Ÿ‡

Think about it — your cells are eavesdropping on your meals.
Each mouthful whispers, “Build energy!” or “Prepare for battle!” or sometimes… “What on earth was that?”

Doctor Food is the most approachable of the six best doctors — always on duty, always ready to help, and usually found somewhere between your fridge and your fork.

A story from the clinic

Years ago, I treated a gentleman in his late 60s who was constantly tired.
He’d tried supplements, extra sleep, even fancy health drinks — nothing worked.
When we went through his diet, I noticed the same pattern: tea and toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and a “proper dinner” at night… meaning meat, potatoes, and not a single green thing in sight. He basically had a ‘brown diet’!

When I asked him when he last ate something fresh and colourful, he blinked and said, “Christmas?” ๐Ÿ‘€โ˜น๏ธ

Three weeks later, after introducing rainbow-coloured veg, nuts, seeds, and a splash of olive oil, his energy came back, his skin glowed, and his sense of humour returned.
He even joked that his wife was now “having to chase him to sit down.” NB As his wife was the cook (note he had given away his power to someone else i.e. wasn’t being responsible for what he put in his mouth) she also came onside - and her health improved as well. :-)

Doctor Food had clearly paid a visit.

Why it matters (science made simple)

You are what you repeatedly eat.
Every bite becomes part of you — your blood, bones, mood, and energy. It may not be instantaneous but it is undeniable.

Nutrients are the building blocks for healing and vitality.
Colourful, whole foods provide the antioxidants, fibre, and enzymes your body recognises — unlike the ultra-processed stuff that leaves you buzzing briefly then crashing.

Your gut is also home to trillions of bacteria — your internal ecosystem. Feed it well, and it rewards you with strong immunity, balanced hormones, and even better moods.
Yes, your dinner literally talks to your brain. It is often called your ‘gut brain’.

The modern food trap

In our rushed, convenience-driven world, eating has become multitasking:

  • Scrolling while snacking

  • Grabbing something “on the go”

  • Mistaking fullness for nourishment

  • Rewarding ourselves with sugar when what we need is rest

  • Relying on ready meals which tend to be sugar rich but nutrient and substance poor.

Food has become emotional support, entertainment, and stress relief — anything but fuel.

We’ve forgotten that eating is sacred: a daily opportunity to connect with life itself.

The good news? You can fix this — deliciously.

Doctor Food prescribes pleasure, not punishment.
You don’t have to go vegan, gluten-free, or live on kale smoothies (unless you want to).
You just have to eat with awareness and colour.

Here are a few easy prescriptions:

๐Ÿฅ— Eat the rainbow – Aim for at least five different colours a day. Each one brings unique nutrients.

๐Ÿง  Notice how food makes you feel – Energised or heavy? Calm or jittery? Your body’s feedback is instant.

๐Ÿž Choose whole over processed – If your great-grandmother wouldn’t recognise it, it’s probably not real food.

๐ŸŒพ Mind your portions – Stop eating when you feel comfortably satisfied, not stuffed.

๐Ÿซ Enjoy treats consciously – Savour them slowly and guilt-free. One square of good chocolate is better than a bar you barely notice.

๐Ÿฅ• Cook occasionally – Even simple meals connect you to your senses, creativity, and self-care.

๐Ÿฅฃ Hydrate while you eat – Water aids digestion and reduces that post-lunch fog.

Benefits of Doctor Food’s medicine

  • Stable energy and mood

  • Stronger immune system

  • Healthier digestion

  • Glowing skin and sharper thinking

  • A deeper, more joyful relationship with your body

And perhaps best of all — the quiet confidence of knowing you’re nourishing yourself, not just feeding yourself.

A mindful moment

Next time you sit down to eat, Pause before the first bite.
Look at the colours, breathe in the smell, and whisper a little thank you — to the sun, the soil, the cook, and to yourself.

That moment of gratitude changes everything.

Doctor Food doesn’t just want you to eat well — he wants you to enjoy being alive.
